Brand new Accoya wood shutters were manufactured, coated, and installed by Accoya approved manufacturer, A R Manley & Son. The client came directly to A R Manley & Son and requested Accoya wood for this job, as they had previously worked together to create Accoya wooden pedestrian gates.

The homeowner wanted shutters to provide privacy and additional security for their multi-functional outbuilding and to make it appear more junior compared to the main residence. The shutters, when closed, conceal the building’s main entry point; 2 sets of 3 leaf bifold doors. Rolling shutters were chosen, using PC Henderson sliding gear to allow for easy movement of the large shutters.

Traditional joinery techniques were used to manufacture the Accoya wood into shutters, a timber that A R Manley & Son has been using for many years. They believe Accoya is a “dependable, long-lasting timber that takes paint well and is therefore low maintenance.” Shutters require a strong and durable material that can withstand all weather conditions and regular daily use, as such, Accoya is the ideal material choice.

The homeowners requested the shutters be painted black in the style of a traditional barn and despite the shutters being on a south-facing aspect, A R Manley & Son were not concerned. They chose to spray paint with Teknos primer and matt black topcoat. In fact, A R Manley & Son “find Accoya joinery and Teknos paint is the perfect match. It is a dream to work with.” The shutters look outstanding, and the coating will perform for many years to come.
