Accoya USA
A Major Milestone Achievement!
Production is now underway at the first-ever USA manufacturing site for Accoya USA. Commercial operations officially began in September of 2024 after a successful first batch on July 13, 2024, followed by several dozen subsequent batches that met strict quality standards.
Collaborative Excellence
Accoya USA is a joint venture between premium high performance, sustainable wood supplier Accsys (London, United Kingdom) and global specialty materials company Eastman (Kingsport, Tennessee), leveraging and benefiting from synergies between the two businesses’ respective strengths.
The joint venture constructed and now operates the Accoya wood production plant dedicated to serving the North American market. As the US seeks more sustainable building materials, there is a burgeoning market for high performance wood.
Eastman is a world leader in chemical engineering and processes, the world’s largest producer of acetic anhydride, and has extensive experience in project leadership for plant design and construction.
Accsys is an innovative company specializing in the production and commercialization of acetylated wood products. With years of proven success in the manufacturing, marketing and sales of Accoya, Accsys has established a strong global presence.

Addressing Opportunity in North America
Green Light for Growth
The growing preference for “green” building materials over traditional construction products are spurring market demand in North America, along with government regulations and initiatives to promote the use of eco-friendly building materials.
Accoya wood has been consistently growing in popularity globally, with its unmatched combination of high-performance characteristics, long-life durability in varied conditions, and exceptional sustainability credentials including Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold certification. With the new USA plant fully commissioned, Accoya USA is now poised to provide faster delivery and enhanced reliability and service to our North American customers.
Designed to Succeed
Accoya USA Production Plant
Located in Kingsport, TN
The newly constructed plant replicates the successful design and technology of Accsys Technologies’ established production facility in the Netherlands. It has been built at Eastman’s Kingsport, Tennessee site, with Eastman providing the acetic anhydride required for the wood acetylation process from its adjacent facility in a closed loop system.
The Accoya USA facility will initially have an annual production capacity of 18 million board feet provided through two acetylation reactors, replicating Accsys’ proven-successful design, technology and processes at their Arnhem site. The Accoya USA plant has created 46 skilled new jobs in the Kingsport, TN area.
