Accoya USA
A Joint Venture For Collaborative Excellence
Accoya USA, LLC is a joint venture between Accsys and Eastman, taking advantage and benefitting from synergies between the two businesses’ respective strengths.
The Partnership
Sustainable wood specialist Accsys plc (London, U.K.) and Eastman (Kingsport, Tenn.) have formed a joint venture company, Accoya USA LLC. The joint venture is constructing and operating an Accoya wood production plant to serve the North American market. As the US seeks more sustainable building materials, there is a burgeoning market for high performance wood.

Eastman is a world leader in chemical engineering and processes, the world’s largest producer of acetic anhydride, and has extensive experience in project leadership for plant design and construction.

Accsys is the only producer of acetylated wood in the world, with years of proven success in the manufacturing, marketing and sales of the sustainable, ultra high-performance building material.

Accoya USA
Addressing Opportunity in North America
Green Light for Growth
Accoya wood has been consistently growing in popularity globally, with its unmatched combination of high performance characteristics, long-life durability in all conditions, and exceptional sustainability credentials including Cradle to Cradle Certified® Gold certification.
Currently Accsys has a capacity of ~80,000m3 of Accoya per year at its existing site in Arnhem, the Netherlands since the completion of a fourth acetylation reactor there. The Accoya USA facility will initially have an annual production capacity of ~43,000m3 (~18 million board feet) provided through two acetylation reactors, replicating Accsys’ proven-successful design, technology and processes at their Arnhem site.

Designed to Succeed
Accoya USA Production Plant
Located in Kingsport, TN
The plant will replicate the successful design and technology of Accsys Technologies’ production facility in the Netherlands. We are anticipating the first Accoya ‘made in the USA’ to be ready for the market in 2024. It is being built at Eastman’s Kingsport, Tennessee site, with Eastman providing the acetic anhydride required for the wood acetylation process from its adjacent facility.
