Stained Accoya wood

Baja Club entails a 32–room lifestyle hotel for hotelier Grupo Habita located on a beautiful plot of coastal promenade in the historic centre of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Subtle nautical connotations such as the new build’s horizontal streamlining and curved bulkhead elements clad in Accoya play on the maritime context of the hotel. Accoya was also chosen for window frames, cladding, screens and handrails, as a material able to resist La Paz’ hot and dry desert climate as well as the salinity of its seafront location.

All of the Accoya elements were stained in order to match the look of the other wood species that were used for the hotel interior. Local building regulations also required a fire retardant to be applied.

The 3623 m2 project brings together the restoration and adaptive reuse of a pre–existing colonial–style villa dating from 1910 and the construction of a new four–story extension plus basement containing guestrooms, suites, a spa and a rooftop sunset bar. The new build echoes the L–shaped floor plan of the villa resulting in an ensemble that loosely frames a central courtyard.

The Accoya wood was specified by Max von Werz Architects and supplied and installed by INNTEC Group. Around 20m3 worth of Accoya wood was installed on this project.
