The New Pilarín Bayés Library, located in Vic, Barcelona, is a space that is so much more than a traditional public library. The BCQ Arquitectura Barcelona studio believed that it was vital for the building to be a place of comfort and tranquility for work and play. The building not only provides traditional library areas such as spaces for reading, consultation, and study, but it also includes a large children’s area, music areas with a recording studio, along with social spaces, including bar and restaurant services, and even a gaming area!

One of the reasons this building executes such a calm element is the double façade feature, which effectively allows the outdoors to have an indirect feature indoors. Therefore, during the day, while it is still light outside, citizens can enjoy natural lighting instead of the harsh spotlights of a traditional library, as well as a beautiful view of the trees, garden, and old town.

Accoya was selected for the exterior of the double façade, allowing space to be created between both facades. The choice to use Accoya aligned with the architects’ desire for a natural-looking material to contribute to the building’s attempt to connect the inside with the outside. But the most appealing attributes of Accoya are rooted in its outstanding performance, demonstrated by its durability and stability, as well as being sustainable, making it the best choice for outdoor applications.

Accoya wood was supplied by Accoya distributor Grupo Gámiz for this project.
