Stand-out black siding

“Black does not mean it has to be charred”

This striking private home has Accoya wood siding across the entire front facade. The homeowners undertook a large extension to their property and wanted their home to look unique and unlike any of their neighbors.

The Surrey homeowners were familiar with charred wood and liked the dark burnt effect it creates. However, their architect, Karl Harrison, presented them with alternative options. Harrison was on board to design a unique home and so specified Accoya wood siding coated with a Sansin paint to create this jet black appearance. He told his clients, “just because it’s black does not mean it has to be charred, so let’s use something truly unique”.

Harrison believes Accoya siding is “contemporary and offers a texture like no other”, not to mention the 50 year warranty against rot that it comes with. By choosing Accoya, he could rest assured that the initial outstanding finish will remain for years to follow.

Another request of the client was for minimalism. To achieve this the siding has been profiled using tongue and groove with a v-joint in 146mm x 19mm boards and installed vertically. This means that no fixings are visible as the boards are fixed to the property from the back and slot together seamlessly.

The Accoya siding was profiled and supplied by James Latham but installed by architect Karl Harrison Landscapes in 2020.
