Airport terminal light fixtures

Edmonton

Canada

In developing the new U.S. Departures Terminal at Edmonton International Airport, designers at Stantec embraced the culture and feel of the Alberta region, incorporating coppery colors and natural materials that evoke the surrounding prairie landscape.

For the terminal’s food court in the trans-border concourse, exterior-grade light poles help draw the natural design elements upward toward the double-height ceiling, while complementing the streetscape feel of the retail shops. Manufactured by Structura, the regal Sine Series lights consist of a scarf-jointed square tapered pole made with Accoya wood glulam atop an aluminum base; the base color and wood stain complement the terminal’s prairie-like palette.

The light poles are typically installed in exterior applications, where Accoya wood’s high dimensional stability and long-lasting durability ensure the fixtures retain their natural beauty over time.

For the airport application, says Structura president Dan Kohnen, the wood’s quality also helps lend a pristine furniture-like aesthetic.
