Accoya chosen for Historic Restoration Project

Accoya chosen for Historic Restoration Project

In 2014, a 25-year renovation project began for the Nauvoo Historic Site in Illinois. The completion of the Temple District in May 2021 was the first phase of that plan, which included the restoration of  three homes (the Weeks, Gheen and Hyde homes) and one rebuilt home (the Hunter home).

Accoya wood was chosen to restore the exterior trim, windows, doors and bulkhead on all four homes. The Hyde House, in particular, suffered from severe termite damage. Accoya is highly resistant to insect attacks and damage because it is indigestible by a wide range of pests and insects (including termites), resulting in an effective barrier for years to come.

The outstanding preservation efforts resulted in the Nauvoo community being a recipient of the 2021 Landmarks Illinois Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Preservation Awards.

“Our 2021 award-winning projects are models for what preservation can and should be: the creative, inclusive and sustainable reuse of our built environment promoting local job creation and community driven economic development,”

said Bonnie McDonald, Landmarks Illinois president and CEO.
