An Artwork Embracing Nature and Technology

An Artwork Embracing Nature and Technology

It has been 6 years since the remarkable project that won the Amstelveen Architecture Award in 2017 in the utility construction category. The Eneco Boiler House, located in the heart of Amstelveen, was brought to life by the skillful hands of Willem Schutter from Architectenbureau Schutter ETH BV.

This striking building, serving as a heating station, underwent an extraordinary transformation through the use of untreated Accoya wood on a delicate framework. Accoya was meticulously selected due to its remarkably long lifespan, extending up to 50 years of above-ground warranty against the test of time and wood rot, as well as its natural aging process that only grows more beautiful over the years.

The attention and dedication invested in the selection of materials and the meticulous details of this project have been acclaimed as exemplary. The building is seamlessly integrated with the surrounding nature, thanks to its natural radiance. Over the course of these 9 years, the Eneco Boiler House has tirelessly served more than 1,800 private and 20 commercial clients, remaining an impressive testament to architectural innovation and harmony with the environment.

As we reflect on the time that has passed, it feels almost like yesterday when this architectural masterpiece was in the spotlight. Now, nearly a decade later, we are delighted to rediscover how the magic of design and functionality have interwoven into this timeless structure, a symbol of progress and aesthetic beauty.
