Accoya wood selected for the windows and façade of two semi-open passive houses.

Joinery company Schrijnwerkerij Michiels selected Accoya wood, supplied by Hout Bois van Steenberge, for the windows and façade of two semi-open passive houses in Rinkhout, Zele.

Accoya offers improved insulation in comparison with commonly used hardwood and softwood species, so was the ideal material in an application where energy conservation was an important factor within the design. Another key feature of Accoya is its dimensional stability, making it extremely suitable for windows and doors, ensuring doors and windows open effortlessly all year around, with the added benefit of reduced maintenance costs for homeowners.

The ventilation system of the Rinkhout houses uses natural night cooling with automatically controlled skylights that open when the temperature in the house is too high and close when it rains. The Accoya façade is placed vertically with an open profile; this means that space is left between the façades ensuring beautiful long lines. In total, 10mз Accoya wood was used for the construction of the two half-open passive houses.
