Sustainable Architecture

For the renovation of the NEN building in Madrid, Accoya wood was chosen to compliment the steel lattices and facades of the 1967 building. Over 50 years old, the renovation took a modern approach to update the historic building. Bringing in Accoya adds warmth to the otherwise industrial building while ensuring great durability, dimensional stability and excellent sustainability.

The choice of materials focused on the combination of Accoya wood and steel to echo the building environment and industrial history of the neighbourhood. The steel used on the façade evokes safety and durability while the Accoya wood façade aims to give continuity to the urban planning and sustainable architecture that develop in this new area.

Although the interior layout has been preserved, the facade has been updated by the architecture firm ADOM-STUDIO in order to modernise the building by giving it more symmetrical geometry, with a striking balance between the steel and Accoya wood.
