Accoya Wood Brings Lasting Beauty to Culver Homestead

Accoya Wood Brings Lasting Beauty to Culver Homestead

Set on nearly 70 acres of rolling hills and woodland in northern Indiana, the Culver Homestead is a modern farmhouse that feels deeply connected to its natural surroundings. Designed by Northworks Architects, the home balances contemporary forms in steel and metal with a warm, grounded material palette—one where wood plays a central role both visually and functionally.

To achieve the desired look without compromising long-term performance, the design team collaborated with Delta Millworks, a family-owned manufacturer that applies unique textures and rich color to Accoya wood siding and decking products.  The result is an exterior and outdoor living experience that feels timeless, refined, and built to last.

Designing With Nature

Designing With Nature

From the beginning, the Culver Homestead was envisioned as a home that would sit comfortably within its forested setting rather than dominate it. Large expanses of glass open the interiors to the landscape, while carefully selected exterior materials help anchor the architecture to the site.

Wood was an obvious choice…but not just any wood. In a climate that sees wide temperature swings and seasonal moisture, traditional timber can warp, swell, or degrade over time.  Accoya offers the warmth of real wood with exceptional durability and proven sustainability. Made from FSC®-certified timber and modified using a precise acetylation process, Accoya delivers long service life, dimensional stability, and a reduced environmental footprint—supporting a design approach rooted in longevity and respect for nature.

Accoya on the Exterior: Beauty Meets Performance

Accoya on the Exterior: Beauty Meets Performance

Accoya was used in multiple high-impact areas of the project, helping define the home’s architectural character.

Accoya Barnwood siding, finished in Delta Black, wraps key exterior volumes. The deep, rich tone adds contrast against limestone and glass, emphasizing the home’s sculptural forms while still feeling organic within the wooded environment. Accoya’s durability ensures the siding maintains its appearance year after year, even as exposed to the elements.

For the outdoor terrace, Accoya decking was pre-finished in a Custom Gray tone. This space extends the living area outdoors, creating a seamless connection between interior comfort and exterior calm. Thanks to Accoya’s exceptional dimensional stability, the decking resists movement, warping, and cracking—critical for maintaining clean lines and a comfortable walking surface over time.

At the Culver Homestead, Accoya wood does more than enhance curb appeal—it supports the project’s broader goals of longevity, sustainability, and thoughtful design. The material allows the architecture to feel warm and natural while meeting the performance demands of a modern home. The result is a residence that looks as good years from now as it did on day one—proving that when performance and aesthetics align, wood can truly shine.
