Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Nidwalden, Switzerland, a private residence has undergone a remarkable outdoor transformation featuring Accoya wood. This project, a true testament to precision craftsmanship and natural beauty, highlights the exceptional performance and design versatility of Accoya in a decking application.

The client sought an elegant outdoor space that would harmonise effortlessly with the surrounding environment, while providing long-term durability, low maintenance, and refined detailing.

Accoya decking with a ‘pre-greyed’ treatment was chosen for its exceptional dimensional stability and uniform colouration, delivering a beautifully weathered appearance from day one. This approach eliminates the uneven ageing often associated with natural timber, ensuring a timeless and elegant look across the entire surface.

Even the substructure—so often overlooked—was constructed from Accoya, creating a fully durable system that resists extreme warping, swelling, and decay.

Three staircases were incorporated into the design, including steps with angled geometries to suit the site’s distinctive topography. The level of precision required for this execution underscores the craftsmanship and expertise of the installation team.

A discreet, custom-built service cover was also created to provide easy access to the pool equipment without interrupting the visual harmony of the decking. It was installed using a concealed screw system, resulting in a clean finish that enhances the minimalist design.

The result is a timeless and sustainable outdoor living space that embodies both elegance and precision. The use of Accoya ensures the deck will remain dimensionally stable and visually striking for decades to come, even in the demanding conditions of the Swiss alpine climate.
