In 2023, a historic farmhouse underwent a comprehensive renovation, blending modern luxury with timeless charm. The project included a complete overhaul of the property, highlighted by the addition of a state-of-the-art swimming pool, complete with changing rooms and a sauna. At the heart of this transformation were two sets of Accoya bi-folding doors, designed to enhance the farmhouse’s functionality and aesthetics.
The task required elements that would complement the farmhouse’s traditional architecture while also enduring the high humidity of the newly installed swimming pool area. To meet these needs, Midland Conservatories, a family-run company with three generations of experience based in Staffordshire, undertook the renovation project.
The bi-folding doors needed to serve a dual purpose: protecting the pool area from the elements in winter and seamlessly opening up to the outdoor patio with a built-in barbecue in summer.
To address these needs, Midland Conservatories manufactured and installed two sets of custom Accoya bi-folding doors:
Both sets featured raised and fielded panels with Georgian bars, preserving the traditional aesthetic and harmonising with the existing windows throughout the property. Accoya wood was chosen for its exceptional durability, particularly in the humid environment of the swimming pool area. This choice ensures that the doors will maintain their performance and appearance over time.
The new bi-folding doors have transformed the farmhouse’s interaction with its outdoor spaces. During winter, they effectively shield the pool area from harsh weather, while in summer, they effortlessly open to connect the indoor pool with the outdoor patio and barbecue area. This combination of functionality and design ensures that the space can be enjoyed year-round.
