Accoya Charred Cladding

Enhanced grain burnt to perfection

Durability is not only enhanced when using Accoya but the charring prolongs any finish making it long lasting even with the additional stability of Accoya once in situ.

An additional feature of Accoya, a solid wood, is that the grain is emphasised much more than any other timber due to how well the process chars Accoya. The process makes it an attractive timber for exterior cladding and even internal feature walls.

What is Charred Wood?

What is Charred Wood?

In recent years, the ancient Japanese technique of burning wood—known as Yakisugi—has been rediscovered and is now commonly referred to as charred wood.

Traditionally used to preserve cedar by charring its surface, Yakisugi enhances the wood’s durability and longevity. Once mainly applied to cladding, charred timber is now being specified by architects and designers worldwide, with greater flexibility in wood species. Accoya, in particular, is ideally suited for this technique.
