Accoya wood jumps for horse and hound

North Devon

United Kingdom

Established joiner, Watts Design, has teamed up with fellow local business in North Devon, UK, Higher Mainstone Equine to produce a line of show jumping equipment made from Accoya wood. Watts Design has been trading for over 30 years and prior to this project have used Accoya to manufacture windows and doors, having found it is easy to work with, particularly due to its great machinability.

This new range of equipment, ArenA Jump, is particularly focused on jumps to be used at arena shows, as well as in livery yards. The focus is on equestrian use, but the show jumps can be used for other animals including hounds too. Developing this range allows customers to purchase off the peg show jumps, selecting from pre-made solid Accoya wood jumps.

Alternatively, if customers have their own ideas and requirements, then Watts Design can produce bespoke joinery creations. There may be particular heights needed or certain designs wanted, for example, to align with a theme of a show.

Previously to create horse jumps, Watts Design has either used plastic or treated softwood, which did not last very long, therefore a new solution was required. Accoya was selected over all other alternative materials as it provided a high end finish, suitable to be left outside. This alongside the known stability and 50 year no rot warranty, were also amongst the reasons why Accoya was chosen.

Not only is the show jumps beautifully made from Accoya, but they can also be used as advertisement placeholders. The entire product is finished using a Teknos coating which is available in a variety of colours.
