Sustainable construction with Accoya wood
Situated in a breathtaking alpine setting, at an altitude of 1,800 metres above sea level, is the Tschuggen Grand Hotel Arosa. Nestled within the breathtaking Swiss Alps, this five-star hotel epitomizes luxury and opulent accommodation. Boasting striking architecture and an array of premium amenities, the hotel is a favoured retreat for many. Known for its luxurious ambiance and outstanding service, this prestigious hotel offers guests a memorable experience amidst the beauty of the Swiss Alps.
For the Tschuggen Grand Hotel’s new 110-160 sqm Mountain Lofts in Arosa, they opted for sliding shutters crafted from sustainable Accoya wood. Jaloumatic AG was commissioned to install and mount a total of 12 kilometres of Accoya Color Grey slats.
The two new buildings are distinguished by their use of high-quality and sustainable building materials, perfectly blending with Arosa’s surrounding mountain scenery. Accoya Color Grey slats were the choice for both the window sliding shutters and the folding sliding shutters in the loggias. The result is visually impressive, harmonising with the natural colours and contemporary fixtures of the spacious Mountain Lofts.

Accoya Color Grey
Accoya Color Grey is derived from Radiata Pine wood. The wood undergoes a patented acetylation process, making it exceptionally dimensionally stable and resistant to weather, moisture, and pests. It’s an FSC-certified wood sourced from sustainable forestry.
The Advantages of Accoya Sliding Shutters
Accoya is recognised with various quality certificates and offers a warranty of at least 50 years when used above ground. Owing to its outstanding dimensional stability and longevity, it requires minimal maintenance. Accoya Color Grey has a natural grey tint, giving the wood a stylish and elegant appearance.
Additional information about Accoya wood and its benefits:
Accoya wood has established itself as a sustainable alternative to conventional wood. It stands out for the following advantages:
- Eco-Friendly: Accoya wood is made from fast-growing timber species and is FSC-certified, indicating sustainable forestry. Additionally, Accoya wood has been awarded the Cradle to Cradle® Gold status for material circularity.
- Durability: Thanks to the acetylation process, Accoya wood is highly resistant to environmental impacts, moisture, and pests. This significantly extends its lifespan, hence it comes with a 50-year warranty when installed above ground.
- Dimensional Stability: Accoya wood maintains its shape and size even under varying climate conditions, making it ideal for use in demanding construction projects, such as in Arosa at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level.
- Natural Appearance: The wood retains its elegant look and natural texture, making it an aesthetically pleasing choice.
Using Accoya wood for the sliding shutters of the Tschuggen Grand Hotel enforces the luxury hotel’s commitment to sustainable and high-quality construction.
