Acetylated wood on display at Forest Science Centre

At Oregon State University, the College of Forestry is an internationally recognized leader in wood science education, research and policy for managing and sustaining forest ecosystems. The Oregon State Forest Science Mass-Timber Research Complex is over 95,000+ square feet and is comprised of two buildings, the George W. Peavy Forest Science Centre (PFSC) and the A.A. “Red” Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Laboratory (AWP).

Designed by Michael Green Architects, who have done many mass-timber buildings, the complex highlights an entirely new way of thinking about building and design. It is a perfect example of how sustainably managed forests can be used to create beautiful buildings out of wood and establish a connection with the outdoor landscapes.

The PFSC showcases Accoya wood cladding and features 20 classrooms, computer rooms and laboratories, including the FERN Student Centre and the Peavy Arboretum. Accoya cladding was chosen for the building, thanks to its ability to resist rot, defy the elements and stay strong for decades.
