Accoya bricks for five star hotel
Vorrawut are property developers located in Thailand. Their focus is on hospitality development including hotels and this is their second hotel development in Chiang Mai. The building was existing and acquired by Vorrawut who have successfully renovated and achieved a five-star rating.
Vorrawut’s first hotel was The Chiang Mai Riverside which also features Accoya wood.
For this development, The Chiang Mai Old Town, Accoya has been used extensively throughout, both externally and internally. Approximately 55m3 of Accoya was used in this project.
The main façade for the hotel uses Accoya for more than what first meets the eye. The entire façade looks like brickwork but, in fact, it is Accoya wood shaped and coated to look like bricks. This design was chosen to represent the historic ramparts of the city of Chiang Mai which were made with the first form of orange brick to protect the city from invasion (Burma, Laos and Cambodia).
All the interior applications have been done with Accoya too, except the cabinets in the hotel rooms. Here the Accoya wood has been charred to create a dark and impactful aesthetic.
