Coastal Flood Relief Programme

In 2019, Accoya was used in the construction of a contemporary coastal timber railing project measuring 350 metres in length in Clonakilty, Co. Cork, Ireland as part of a flood relief programme.

Designed by Architect, Giulia Valone and constructed by Hennessy Timber Group (Co. Cork, Ireland), Accoya was an excellent choice of material for this external application meeting the stability and durability requirements of the project.

Given the exposed location and its proximity to the coast, architect Gualia Valone chose Accoya for its aesthetic appeal as well as high durability to withstand the elements and the harsh weather conditions of Irish winters.

This railing is used to hide away protective sheet piles which were placed as part of the flood relief programme.

Accoya’s aesthetic appeal ensures that the railing sits sympathetically within its natural surroundings, while also maintaining its structural integrity.

Maintenance was an integral issue during the planning phase of the project. Accoya wood was the natural choice, given its strength, durability and minimal maintenance requirements over the years.
