Dream villa created using Accoya wood

Accoya wood selected for the louvered ceilings and furniture of the dream villa, which offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea.

In the south of Spain, between Valencia and Benidorm, the mountainside villa Casa Sardinera, showcases Accoya wood with breathtaking results. Accoya was selected for the louvered ceilings and furniture of the dream villa, which offers stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea. Due to the location of the project, the decisive factors of specifying Accoya wood, were the need to have a material that had outstanding durability and dimensional stability.

The design, by Ramón Esteve Studio, was created to maximise the panoramic views of the setting, and all of the timber used throughout was whitened Accoya wood. The west facade, which allows access to the villa, is covered with a system of adjustable and motorised Accoya wooden slats which provide protection for the interior of the house and creates privacy. Due to its extremely durable and dimensional stable properties, Accoya, distributed by the Gamiz Group, was the ideal choice for the villa because of its 50 year above ground guarantee providing peace of mind that it will remain resistant to the harsh weathering conditions in the coastal location and stand the test of time.

Opposite the west facade, the sea-facing side is much more open and transparent. A series of concrete walls extend in different directions and lengthen the viewpoints, horizontally overhanging the terrace and becoming awnings. All of the load-bearing elements of the house are made of exposed concrete, while the partitions are made of wood and glass.

The house was designed using sustainability criteria and received Energy Certification A. The entire villa is controlled by an automated management system that optimally manages the air conditioning, lighting and irrigation. On the roof, a solar water heater and a heat pump have been installed to compliment the system, whilst architecturally integrated LEDs provide lighting.

The result is a house that offers the opportunity to view the sea and the interior and exterior spaces from several rooms,”
