Accoya chosen for the Niittysilta bridge

Finland

The Niittysilta bridge was originally designed with a larch decorative outer layer by the famous Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa.

The bridge was constructed by the Helsinki city technical department in 2002 to enable the public to easily cross over a small creek but after 14 years the Larch had decayed and had to be replaced.

In need of a virtually rot free, durable and stable wood, Accoya was selected to replace the Larch. Thanks to Accoya’s stability and durability benefits it posed as the ideal material to restore the bridge.

Accoya was distributed in Finland by Novenberg and was also chosen due to its sustainable credentials.
