reSAWN Timber has provided the exterior cladding for The Guinness Open Gate Brewery and Barrel House, in Relay, Maryland. The first Guinness brewery in the United States since 1954 is clad with reSAWN’s NIGIRI – Shou Sugi Ban charred Accoya wood. The cladding is finished with a grey top coat helping harmonise the installation colour with Accoya’s naturally weathered silver patina over time. The siding material is charred on the face only and sealed on all 4 sides, arranged in the shiplap style.
In December 2019 the Guinness Open Gate Brewery won at the Urban Land Institute Baltimore WaveMaker Awards. Recognised for outstanding wavemaking real estate developments. Winning criteria was: Completeness; a Sense of Place and Quality; Sustainability; Visionary and Emulation; and a Need.
