Accoya was chosen and designed by Jason Hare and his team at the University of Manitoba, Architecture School, FABLab. FABLab is a growing research focused design lab which explores the link between digital craft and formal material assemblies within the disciplines of Architecture.

The Faculty of Architecture at the University of Manitoba has maintained a strong history that is geared towards more traditional ways of working with wood and processes of manual production. Accoya allowed for the weaving together of tradition and technological means of craft and had been chosen for its lightweight properties, material stability and ease of use.

The bench was also exhibited at the CSLA conference by UCS Forest Group.
