The Public Centre for Social Welfare (OCMW) in Belgium opened its new service centre in December 2018. The architectural office CWM chose Accoya wooden frames, doors and part of the cladding.
The brand new service centre provides support services to people over 65. The elderly can go to the OCMW for help such as administrative assistance and computer education. The concrete building was designed by GWM architects from Ghent. “Our choice for Accoya wood was due to a number of aspects,” says architect Cindy de Maaskamp. “The sustainable nature was an important requirement in the tender.”
Accoya wood is utilised in the 24.5m x 3.6m façade as well as the windows and doors. A total of 13m3 of Accoya wood was used in the service centre.
Cindy de Maaskamp: “In the application, the wood provides warm accents on the concrete facade. The dimensional stability of Accoya wood makes it ideal for outside use.”
