Maximising an awkward garden

Maximising an awkward garden

Feature on the Channel 4 programme, Ugly House to Lovely house presented by George Clarke, were homeowners desiring a more enjoyable garden space. The location of their property means their garden is a fairly awkward shape and split across multiple levels. With the help of the show and all contractors involved, their garden was transformed and a spacious cantilevered decking area was created.

Karl Harrison Landscapes was responsible for the brilliant design. With so much experience he was able to meet the homeowners needs within budget, on time and without compromising on material choice or style.

The deck boards are Accoya wood, profiled specifically to work with Exterpark Magnet system. Accoya was chosen for its longevity and stability to provide the homeowners with the ideal solution that will last for years to come. Despite the detailed angles featured, the design will stay brilliantly aligned.

Exterpark Magnet system allows the Accoya boards to lock into place using only magnets, with no requirement for screws. The homeowners were certain they did not want screws to be visible and wanted a secret fixing system. Exterpark provided the ideal solution, a synergy of materials at the highest end of the decking spectrum. The magnets take seconds to fit as do the decking boards. They will remain in place unless removal for access is required and then in seconds the boards can be lifted.

Approved Accoya distributor, James Latham, supplied the Accoya deck boards and very kindly donated them to the show.

Karl Harrison Landscapes chose to finish the Accoya deck boards using Owatrol decking paint. Owatrol has a broad selection of decking paint colours and also offer a 15 year warranty supporting the low maintenance of Accoya. Karl Harrison selected a light grey to keep the space open and contemporary. Owatrol also donated their products to the show.

The project was completed and photographed in 2017.
