The plant uses heat generated by the combustion of wood chips from a local source to produce electricity. To recognise this, architect, François Bouvard, wanted to include wood in the re-design of the building.
The project involved more than 350m2 of Accoya wood, distributed by s CFA and manufactured into 270mm panels by Norsilk. These sections were created using interlocking tongue and grooves, assembling 135mm panels into the metal structure, designed to create a checker-board effect facade. To finish the look, a TEKNOS black saturator paint was applied to the Accoya wood.
The goal of the plant was to take the pressure off an adjoining gas station, in an effort to use mainly renewable energy. Accoya comes from a sustainable source and holds a gold Cradle to Cradle certification, therefore a good material to use to help meet this goal.
After 24 years, the plant is being handed back to the town hall and so a renovation using materials which require little maintenance and cost, was very appealing, making Accoya the right choice. David Orkiszewski from Norsilk commented that “Accoya wood has undeniable qualities”.
