What is FSC®?

FSC® stands for the Forest Stewardship Council®, a timber certification system co-founded by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Trees in FSC® certified forests are grown and harvested according to a strict set of guidelines that benefit the environment. These guidelines include, but are not limited to:

– Limiting the number of trees cut down
– Restricting highly hazardous pesticides
– Protecting indigenous people as well as wildlife habitats

FSC® is a global forest certification system with two key components:

  • Forest Management – Relevant to forest owners and managers
  • Chain of Custody – Applies to manufacturers, processors and traders of FSC-certified products

By choosing FSC®-certified materials and products, verified through a Chain of Custody system, you can be confident that checks have taken place at every stage of processing to ensure genuine FSC claims can be made.

The FSC® certification system allows consumers to identify, purchase and use wood, paper and other forest products produced from well-managed forests and/or recycled materials and a logo and certificate is provided for suppliers to use in their marketing work.

Accoya is FSC® certified. You can view our FSC® certificates below. Of course, FSC® approval is only one environmental label – there are many more which examine other factors such as CO2 generation, pollution and what happens to a material at the end of its life. Accoya has been awarded multiple environmental certifications – meeting the most demanding criteria. You can find out more about our environmental awards here.
