Three bridges have been created to form part of the fortress, with one made entirely from Accoya wood.

The oldest fortification in the city of Bergen op Zoom has undertaken major renovation works. Three bridges have been created to form part of the fortress, with one made entirely from Accoya wood. The Waterschans area, part of the West Brabant Waterline, consists of a canal, a dyke that is lowered by 3 metres and a walking and cycling path around the site.

The Accoya wood bridge, created by RO&AD Architects, spans over 20 meters, constructed from four large laminated Accoya beams, screwed together in a U-shape, and fixed on poles with concrete beams. Accoya wood was ideal for this project because of its proven ability to perform in challenging climates whilst being in close proximity to the water line. With a 50 year above ground and 25 year in ground/freshwater guarantee, Accoya provided peace of mind that it is a material that can withstand the test of time.

RO&AD Architects, have designed and created multiple Accoya wood projects on the Brabant Water Line, including the Mozesbrug and Ravelijnbrug.
