Accoya’s outstanding stability and durability properties

A large heritage restoration project in Margate, Kent required a material that would withstand the harsh weather conditions and salt spray the seafront building faces.  Accoya, specified by Architect Studio Sam Causer, was selected for the ambitious restoration works. The owners of the building were successful in securing grants from The Heritage Lottery Fund and The Townscape Heritage Initiative to contribute towards the works needed.

DG Joinery used Accoya to repair all of the front façade windows, as well as creating an impressive entrance door. The new front door was made to be an exact replica of a neighbouring property and created with Accoya and MEDITE® TRICOYA® EXTREME panel infills. The sun room which extended out between the two bays on the first floor was also renovated, and the roof structure was fully replaced, using finger-jointed Accoya.

The seafront location was a key factor in Accoya’s specification for this project. Accoya’s track record of successful use in a range of sea and ocean front buildings over the past 10 years, made it the ideal solution. Accoya was finished with a Teknos coating and with both Accoya and Medite® Tricoya® Extreme, coatings last longer. This results in a low maintenance solution for the homeowner.

Applications used in this project:Doors Doors

This project was the first time we had used Accoya, however since then, we now recommend Accoya to all of our clients as a first option. The 50 year above ground guarantee, combined with its superior dimensional stability and outstanding durability means that now, over 85% of our work is built with Accoya. This suits the work we do and also the location we are in, as we are close to the seafront and mainly build casement, sash windows and doors.
