Accoya was chosen for its outstanding durability and stability, non toxic process and environmental credentials.
Isthmus in partnership with Richard Bain Landscape Architects was commissioned to assist New Plymouth District Council, New Zealand with their vision of delivering a pedestrian priority environment, able to accommodate a series of events and activities while connecting to the library, Central Business District and adjacent foreshore.
The aim of the project was to transform a dated and inadequate streetscape layout and palette into a vibrant urban amenity stimulating users while creating an attractive street interface allowing businesses to provide outdoor space for their customers.
15m3 of Accoya wood supplied by ITI NZ to the contractor McIntosh Timber Laminates, was used for the seating, 4 large planters, additional smaller planters and 2 large Accoya decking areas.
The log seating works as a sun trap and recalls the elements of the nearby foreshore. Accoya wood was chosen for its outstanding durability and stability, non toxic process and environmental credentials.
