The first Accoya wood terrace in the world with integrated LED lighting

The first outdoor terrace with integrated LED lighting has been made from Accoya wood. Accoya was the chosen material for this innovation because of its adaptability, machinability and dimensional stability. These key features allow the wood to be machined very thinly and consequently do not expose the LEDs but enable the light to shine through.

Designers from the Zanaga Design Lab in Florence, Italy, have developed this technique,  Led Lighting SD, which maintains aesthetic, whilst creating a functional and sustainable result. Rather than cutting the wood and leaving the LED module visible, this new design makes the LED invisible when the light is turned off, keeping the Accoya wood flush to touch.

Additionally, Accoya was chosen for its excellent outdoor performance. The wood remains stable in various weather conditions and does not overheat in the sun. This ensures minimal movement and in turn, very low maintenance.

LED lights have great durability and are also water-resistant. The combination of these two materials creates a highly efficient and excellent performing product. Zanaga has developed both decking and cladding as part of a new range, Kobel Outdoor Collection. The majority of the range is built using Accoya because it is the only wood with a 50 year warranty, it is non-toxic and a real ecological alternative.
