Accoya® restores historic building in Bath
Similarly to numerous other Accoya restoration projects, Accoya has been selected again as the ideal wood to help restore one of Baths most historical buildings.
Bath Bespoke are well known for high-end architectural joinery, bespoke kitchens and furniture throughout the UK and internationally. In 2015, they were commissioned by the management team at Bath Abbey to help rescue the casement windows of the Abbey bell tower.
The Accoya casement windows posed several challenges for the Bath Bespoke team. They were only be accessible via a narrow winding stone staircase, across a walkway and then on up into the tower, and they were set four metres high up on a wall.
The Abbey management team chose Accoya as they required high quality, durable casement windows that would stand the test of time. To meet this brief Bath Bespoke specified Accoya wood casements with a microporous paint finish to allow the wood to breathe.
Bath Bespoke have been making heritage windows for a long time and these particular windows were made in the traditional way, with full mortice and tenon joints, original mouldings, tight scribes and the best UK manufactured ironmongery. They also helped restore the sash windows in Bath’s Circus using Accoya wood.
