Accoya® wood, the world’s leading high technology wood, has been recognised as a ‘Gold standard’ product under the highly prestigious and competitive Cradle to CradleSM (C2C) Certification scheme.
Acquisition of C2C Gold Certification confirms the anticipated environmental compatibility of Accoya® wood, a highly durable and dimensionally stable solid wood made through a non-toxic modification process, the source wood for which is fast growing, abundantly available sustainable certified wood.
C2C certification has become one of the most important eco-labels worldwide. This independent certification scheme is executed by environmental consultancy firm MBDC, to determine if products, services and buildings comply with the C2C principles towards sustainability.
Compared to many pessimistic sustainable design and production scenarios, the Cradle to CradleSM design philosophy, developed by Michael Braungart and Michael McDonough, is a more positive approach towards sustainability. In this innovative approach, products, services and buildings are developed based on renewable power and safe materials smartly designed for re-utilization after their lifespan, either in the biological cycle (for non-toxic, renewable materials) or technological cycle (man-made materials based on non-renewable materials) for unlimited recycling and re-use. If executed proficiently, this results in a wasteless society.
Accoya® wood is a non-toxic modified high technology wood, made from sustainably sourced, fast growing wood species, which is highly durable and dimensionally stable. Since Accoya® wood is non-toxic and based on rapidly renewable wood species, it fits very well in the biological cycle within the C2C paradigm, and was therefore acknowledged as 100% biodegradable by MBDC, which can either be safely composted or reused in the end-of-life phase. Also in terms of safe materials, responsible wood sourcing, water efficiency and social responsibility Accoya® wood proficiently met the high requirements for C2C Gold certification.
