Green Life Smart Life™, a green building showcase home on the Rhode Island (RI) coast of the USA, has reached completion. The home features many high technology sustainable materials, including the largest private deck built to date in North America using revolutionary Accoya® wood.
The home is designed to demonstrate how families can make lifestyle choices that are both sustainable and meet their needs without compromising the environment's needs. Accoya®, a solid modified wood made only from sustainable sources and offering superior durability and dimensional stability, was the ideal choice for the front and rear decks.
The use of Accoya® wood has contributed to the project’s LEED-H points in the category of Materials & Resources. The home achieved an official rating by the US Green Building Council as a GOLD certified LEED® for Home Project and is the first LEED-H Gold Home in RI.
Accoya® wood is an extensively proven product that is ideal for demanding outdoor applications such as decks and has recently been approved by the American Window and Door Manufacturers’ Association (WDMA) on the Chemically Modified Wood List as meeting the requirements of the WDMA I.S.4 “Industry Specification for Preservative Treatment For Millwork”.
